I would like to go climbing in the Dolomites as well. One day........ but lets face it Damo not really helpful to the topic at hand.

Do you have a solution to the problems facing Werribee? I'm eager to hear it.

What gfdonc was proposing sounds pretty sensible;

-Sweep up as much of the loose crap as you can at the top
-Look up and live! Anyone standing at the base of a loose crag which is covered with people probably oughta be looking up at the cliff
-Learn to move around up there without dropping rocks (this is a climbing skill which used to be common)
-Try to shuffle the commercial abseil operation off to some other area
-Abuse people who drop an unacceptable amount of rock
-Try to reduce numbers at the crag (this seems to be a big part of the problem)
-Downgrade everything massively
-Be honest about how shit the place is
-Accept that serious accidents will occur from time to time. If Werribee is only one accident away from being closed to climbers, then it's a dead crag walking no matter what you do.

The majority of loose rock is from Sweet Chariot to Golgotha. It's also the main area people stand around on to enjoy the views and kick rocks off. I find it insane that people dont wear a helmet at WG, especially when hanging around at the base. I'm all for spending a day 'sweeping' all the choss off the edge. I'm not too stoked about lower offs.

What sort of issues would be created by trying to shuffle commercial operators off to Staughton Vale, which in my mind is a much easier abseiling crag both access and height wise.

El Jefe - we aren't going to have a parallel conversation in two topics!

Keep posting EJ. You don't really need to be a member of the secret squirrel club to have an opinion do you? Muki is living proof of that and nmonteith finally relented and let him join but only after winding him up by posting about him there first while he couldnt read those posts then deleting them before Muki got access. go on, do it, you know you want to join.
It is like the odious polls, that are all about democracy aka drilling rights.

Its not half as good as the Moon though.

Fixed that for odious.

Thanks but no nmonteith. I swore in my wrath I'd never post on Chockstone and have now broken this vow. I'm off to the naughty corner.

I'll discover the outcome of this discussion if I see lower offs.
