Very nice magazine, very professional, absorbing, clearly run by climbers for climbers - great work!

I echo the positive sentiment expressed earlier in this thread regarding Vertical Life.
It has taken me a little while to get to reading it, but I am glad now that I have, and I savoured the moments doing so!
I wish the production team all the best for the future in continuing their adventure into the unexplored realms of publishing-psyche!

Thanks VL team
Great mag, really well put together and engaging reading which is not really helping my work productivity at work at the moment.

Can't download it at mine... Probably for the best - will check it out tonight. If it is anything like the first edition, this will be good!

The download link is a bit confusing.
Have you thought about using another format rather than pdf? It is not the easiest thing too read, too small for my eyes on my laptop to read at full screen. Zooming in obviously works but isn't the most elegant solution for such a great mag. Well done again and thanks.

That's not my issue. Security software marks the download link as a game so blocks me accessing it...

The download link IS a bit confusing - the actual link doesn;t work, but if you right-click the picture of the mag, and Save As, that works. Don't know how to circumvent dalai's issue other than by doing it from home...
I like the pdf format, looks great on my 24" monitor.

Yes - downloaded at home last night and had a quick scan through. Looks brilliant!

I guess part of the reason it's an online magazine only is because it's an absolute assload of trouble getting it printed in magazine form. What are the chances of getting a real magazine printed? I would absolutely love a real magazine on the same level as Crux was. Is a physical mag planned for the future?

I'm actually enjoying the online format. If you've got a nice big monitor, the quality is great - and its quite readable on a tablet too if you want the sit-back experience. I like the ability to click through on video clips, and had some enjoyable diversions to other sites / content that they made clickable. And at its current price, it is unbeatable value... I'm not sure I would prefer it as another $7.50 or greater magazine, I'm pretty stoked with it as it is. I wonder how commercially viable it is in this format, though, and hope that it can survive and grow.

Hey Olbert - we might be digital geeks but we love print too. We are doing one print edition a year that will be more mook than mag, more journal than junk mail. We won't be printing each edition though. As you rightly say, not only is the future 1s and 0s, there are a whole bunch of costs and logistics that evaporate if you are not in print and for us that is the critical.
@technogeekery, we know the DLs can be a little less than perfect and we are working on fixes to make the system better (at the minute the instruction is to right click and save as, which works okay most of the time.) We are also using the cloud mag delivery portal Issuu - www.issuu.com. VL issue one is up there and issue two will be soon, as well as looking at other methods of delivery. (Thanks for the "hope" too, we will try to wring as much as we can out of that to ensure that we do stick and around and get better and more badass.)

One could easily send the pdf off to a printer and print it themselves if they so desired.

Compared to a commercial magazine such as Rock or Crux a self printed magazine would be both shit quality and expensive. It's amazing what economies of scale can do for you.

The cost of printing & distributing CRUX is what killed it.

I'm fine with the digital only format - right now it's the greatest motivator by far to get a tablet computer.
Great mag guys - stoked with the shear amount of content. And the quality.
Looking forward to the "Mook".

Interesting that since I put the sutherland guide out as a downloadable eBook PDF I haven't sold a single printed copy but the eBooks are zipping out the door.

Love the mag and I think the pdf format is fine if you are reading it on a monitor. I really enjoyed the Darrans artical. Makes me want to go back there.
