Indeed!

There are stories of people exposing certain body parts to the elements on Everest and getting frostbite there which sounds nasty!

"I almost reckon that the measure of how good you are isn't the hardest climb you can do, but the easiest climb you can't! Who gives a fuch if you can climb 28 at South Central. If there's a gr16 offwidth at Buffalo that shuts you down, you're a gr15 climber :)"

Except stuff like Windjammer at Point Perp, which has two amazingly slopey bums. Saw some french dude a while ago layback/cheat his way up Icebird.........didn't work quite so well on Windjammer :D

Why do people call laybacking cheating?

When your a few meters above your last dodgy bit of gear it doesn't feel like cheating!

Because:
Grade 25 sport climber can layback their way up grade 15 cracks at grade 25.
Grade 15 crack climber cannot crack climb their way up grade 25 sport climbs at grade 15.

Basically it's because it's unfair to the beard strokers.

Heard on mountainproject.com

"I don't like it when climbers say something is awkward. The rock is never awkward. You just don't have the technique to do it right. Do you tell a toddler who can barely walk the ground is awkward?"

The proximity theory: the closer you are to a route the harder and scarier it seems.

Climber: I wanna go climb in Krabi.
Non-climber: Where's that?
Climber: Thailand.
Non-climber: Asia?
Climber: Yeah.
Non-climber(seriously): Don't people go there to have sex with ladyboys.
Climber: Mostly, there is some other stuff there aswell.

Quote was possibly from Mentzy on a cold Natimuk morning. Hardest thing about starting a cafe. At 830am.

Yesterday marked 20 years since Wolfgang Gullich passed away. In recognition:
