By coherent, what I meant was, "Does it make any sense?" And then of course there is the question of whether the plan is actually being implemented. ;-)

We are considering a trip to Arapiles in May 2014 (from Auckland). I for one would love to camp, but others in the group may be less keen, and this might swing the decision.

Does the fire ban still include May? Brrr.

If not, does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to purchase firewood?

The weekend before last I noticed you can buy firewood at the BP (I think) on the road through Horsham to Natimuk - on the other side to the Safeway / Woolworths supermarket. $10 a bag? Or it could've been $7?

very expensive way to buy wood . box and red gum retail for $100 to $130 a tonne in the towns so very dear wood and a lot of the time it isn't very good

Well yes, but we aren't likely to haul a tonne out to the camp in an already fairly full rental car ;-)

Anyone - are the fire pits still banned in May?

No. Ban ends at end of March or April, can't remember which, but May is definitely OK.
Good for you planning to bring your wood. Too many people just ignore the fact that collection of firewood in the park is not allowed.

Don't buy in the servo (Shell I think) on the right in Stawell - ripped off there once, $15+ per bag I think.

OK, so maybe the servo in Horsham, but a tad expensive and possibly crap firewood.

Any other suggestions for a bit of decent firewood within half an hour or so of Araps? I think I'd happily drive off and grab half a bootload or so next Sunday evening.

Anyone local have a stash in for winter they'd be willing to sell a bit of? Or a contact for a local firewood supplier who might help out?

The problem, as I see it, with the firewood collection ban is that fire boxes are provided, and there tend to be a few obvious established fire rings on top of that. But for a non local trying to plan things in advance it's hard to figure out how to buy some decent firewood in smaller quantities, and that just encourages firewood collection. Not that we'd do that.

There's a house on the other side of the street from me that'snot being put to good use, since the Easter Colonic Irrigation Dojo has closed. Help yourself.

I wonder how much they'd charge to deliver a tonne of wood from Horsham to the Pines. Could be a winner if you're there for a couple of weeks!

Just like the bloke who set upl the crepe stall or the guy selling recharge juice for phones and laptops - someone just needs to rent a trailer and sell to the dirtbags..

We're only there for a week. Who is "they"? If anyone can put me in touch with a nearby firewood merchant, I'll happily go get a bootload.

I took a boot load of firewood from our property to Araps last week, only to realise fires were banned until after ANZAC Day. We dumped it near the rear right corner of the pines, just over the road.

It's all your if you want it.

Thanks Doug, onto it.

And thanks too Climboholic - if it's still there next weekend, we'll make use of it. Owe you some beers if so...

Horsham guy isn't responding to gumtree messages, or isn't getting them. Can anyone get the phone number to display on his Gumtree page? I sure can't.

Not for me, in any browser, logged in or not. The CAPTCHA popup might come up (though never in Chrome), it might let me enter text, submit it and ... reliably nothing happens. Maybe you have to be in Oz? Who codes these piles of shit? Anyway thanks ajfclark.
