A person who finds a thing, and does not make a reasonable attempt to find its owner also commits the
offence of stealing. This is sometimes referred to as stealing by finding. A reasonable attempt to find the
owner might simply be handing the item in to police.
Apart from the trust isssue and moral dilemas.
Just because you find it does'nt mean its yours. Leaving a rope at a crag is a civil offence (maybe
littering) taking the rope when its not yours is a criminal offence (stealing by finding).
Its not always booty you know. |
