i bought a black diamond predator (50L) a few months ago in canada. very similar pack to the Osprey link above. Tried it on and it was so bloody comfy I bought it. Used for a couple of small ascents while I was over there and was really happy with it climbing steep snow and rock. You forget it is there after a while. Love the fact that it can can strip down to 1 kg, it has a small insulation mat in it, the helmet is stored on top of the lid in a mesh strap on top of the hood for easy access (but not good for bush bashing) and saving room in the pack, heaps of room in the hood, puts the weight on the hips and integrates with a climbing harness really well. It seems well built and hopefully it will last, most BD stuff I've had did/does.

Two gripes - the first is the sweaty back (this is where the Osprey pack has the advantage), the second - didnt seem to handle 20 kg very well but it was packed to the hilt and could have been more the bulk than the weight. prob wont be used like that much anyway.

heading out into the main range for 10 days in a few weeks time. i will have a pretty good idea just how good (or bad) it is after that i spose.
