Thanks M9 and Macciza - I agree with all your points. I can't see 0.1mm making any real difference but the rope will be new, dry-treated (so slick) and potentially wet/icey so I'm concerned the slightly narrower diameter might be pushing my luck.
Steve at climbing anchors has been really helpful re a Tendon rope in an 8.5mm in the length I need which is sounding good.
Looked at Bluewater in the states - they do custom lengths over there but they've recently moved from 8.5 to 8.4mm in their half ropes. Maybe they still have some 8.5mm spools lying around though in Australia. I'll make some enquiries.
I'll definitely try and organise a test with the ropeman. |
