I have only ever used 9mm when canyoning, and always found adequate friction when using a rap-rack. Gloves help to give more friction, as does disciplined abseiling technique - yes, even when first off an awkward start of an overhang.
Have been considering going to 8mm for my next set of canyoning ropes. Smaller package for overnight trips.
Is 'Cousins' a brand name? Sounds good if they float, but why not clip the rope to your pack if you think it may be lost during a swim? Sound desirable if they do not absorb water, though.
