I have all my draws set up opposed, I find them easier when clipping way out to one side. We seem to be talking about different things, though related.

Mikl, are you talking about E vs F? Mine spin into a spot like E even with Petzl rubbers on. It seems minor strength related issue when looking at all the other draw related talk.

I reckon the use of the two different types of bolt plates makes more of a difference than the gate same side / different side debate. But people calls the two types of plates different names. What is their correct name?

a/b: straight / flat / 45 degree / flippy
c/d: bent / right angle / 90 degree / directional

I call them straight / bent, and prefer bent although on some carrots, straights fit where bent don't, so it's worth carrying a couple of brands / variations. The reason I prefer bent is because you can clip them from the top (C) without having to spin them (D), whereas with straight ones if you clip from the top they sit funny (B) which seems obviously weaker and more prone to funny business like trent's unclipping example. They of course can be spun to sit flat but it's extra work on every clip.

Most people who use straight bolt plates seem to clip them from the bottom (A) but it's a delicate maneuvre requiring more reach and precision, as the plate can get lifted off the carrot accidentally!

What do others think?
