I would simply ask yourself how often you intend to get wet in it (from the inside or out). The only real pro for synthetic I can think of is its capability of staying warm even when its wet. I've got a down coat and would always go for down as I don't wear it when it rains and it folds into its own small pocket so its very compact. I wouldn't put a jacket over down tho- the build up of sweat would soon make the down damp.
