Advice for Sleeping bags, Vango or Black Wolf. 9-Jun-2007 At 9:20:27 PM surfinclimb

I usually spend about 150+ nights a year in a sleeping bag, usually in a tent for work and one of the most important pieces of gear I own are my sleeping bags. If you dont sleep well you just dont perform well and theres nothing worse to ruin a good nights sleep than a cold or wet sleeping bag. For snow conditions where im travelling (skiing etc and need to keep it light and smallish) and im fairly certain that I can keep my down bag (Katmandu Rumdoodle) dry then I take it. It does have dry loft but its really only good for condensation and small puddles. I will also assume that you know what the results are with a wet down bag. When Im doing rafting trips or sleeping in a snow cave and Im fairly certain its gunna get a bit wet then I take my Synthetic MONT bag. It dries quickly and still keeps me warm when its wet with no real lasting damage done to the bag. It dont compress real small but nor do I carry it on my back much.
Between the two bags you have mentioned I wouldnt touch the Black Wolf, most of their gear is cheap and it doesnt take long for it to show through. Vango I believe are a pommy company and everything that I have seen of theirs has appeared to stand the test of time with long time happy owners.
Remember that in the middle of the night when youre shivvering and looking for something else to help keep you warm there was always that slightly better bag hanging in the rack that might only have cost you what you spent last weekend at the pub.
Cheers
