climbing gear on internet?? 15-Jan-2007 At 1:12:10 PM tbp79

G'day Eve, I've used Gear Express twice over the last couple of years without too much hassle. The second time around they billed my credit card twice which buggered things from my end for a day or so (a useless commbank phone service person was the main prob, but eventually sorted). Both orders were over the $600 mark. If you spend over $300US with Gear Express they will ship anywhere within the states for free. Do as bomber suggests and take the birthday card route. As a separate issue, beware of overseas orders coming in to oz via the NON-GOV UPS courier service as i was charged $60 by the company because customs here did a random hold up/check on the box. This was when i bought outdoor gear from www.sierratradingpost.com who actually ship internationally for surprisingly cheap fees. First shipment got through customs without fee, second box got whacked the extra $60. Sierra doesn't have much climbing gear but GREAT for outdoor clothing, shoes etc. Try the GearExpress guys as they seemed pretty helpful with both our missions- even threw in an extra carabiner because they didn't have my requested anodised ones. I think the customs limit is orders over the $300AUD mark but the customs website says this:

All goods (except for tobacco products and alcoholic beverages) may be imported duty and tax free if their value is $1,000 or less.
Note: However, where there are multiple packages to the same addressee in Australia from a single consignor overseas that arrive at about the same time, then the value of all packages will be combined for duty and tax assessment purposes. Refer to example 1.

Better check the customs site to be sure. All the best!
