Although it sucks (I was at uni when building my rack) - buy the good stuff, not the cheap stuff. I bought some cheap stuff, and ended up replacing most of it within 2 years. As most people will indicate, BD and WC make the best nuts. Either will do for a primary set, then double on the common sizes with the other brand. Hexes are good, and will do you for a while (depending on where you climb). WC Rockcentrics are very good hexes. When you start to lead instead of toprope, bite the bullet and order a set of cams - you should be able to get a deal. BD C4s are probably the most popular, and with good reason. WC flexi friends are meant to be good too. The six cams .3-3 are a great set, and should last you forever. You might be able to save some money if you order these from the US/Canada. Or if you are patient, Paddys and Mountain Designs have 20% off sales about twice a year I think.
