Accessory cord for slings? |

I recently purchased some pro that needed slinging with 5.5mm spectra or techcord. The shop which sold me the gear said they didn't carry spectra as normal 6mm accessory cord was adeqaute for the job.
I thought this was very dodgy and bought spectra elsewhere.
Does anyone know of any other shop or climber slinging their gear with normal cord? Is this now accepted practice?
