I'd buy a pair of 'climbers shorts' if...
Similar to cargo shorts but only have 2 velcro/zip pockets that you can access with the harness on (eg low on the legs as mentioned by others).
A double layer of fabric over the bum area (my shorts usually wear from sitting on belay ledges and the usual climbing landscape).
A fly that you can use without removing your harness.
Flat sewn seams/waistband to maximise comfort whilst sitting at a hanging belay.
Could use similar fabric weave as the lighter Aust military camo (not necessarily in camo colours thou...) its a tough fabric but not too heavy.
Fashion them so I can still wear them in the pub.
Keep them cheap!

Skater type sleeveless Tshirts are cool in summer but still have enough covering over the shoulders to stop me getting burnt to a crisp.

A very basic but bombproof roll-up rope bag with a simple, over one shoulder, strap.

If any of this goes into production you know where to send the preproduction freebees :-)
