I guess that recommendations from rope manafacturers are conservative as they a) want to cover their
arses and b) want to keep their sales ticking over.
UIAA has an interesting article on their site: http://www.uiaa.ch/article.aspx?a=147&c=1
My climbing partner took a big fall (fall factor near enough 1) on my almost new rope and the rope went
all lumpy - I retired it!
edit: My mistake - the fall factor was near enough 2! Probably a bit less because my mate slowed down
when he hit my belay ledge and then decked it on the rope stretch.... |
