Hi dan
my brothers name is daniel too. thought he had posted for minute.
had a pair of DMM raptors as my first tools.
had a 60cm axe and 45 cm hammer. was quite happy with them. the metal is softish on the picks and bluntens reasonably easily. (easy fixed with a small file).
other than that found them quite good for a first tool.
the 50cm dmm fly is a nice light and slightly more technical tool than the raptor is is porbably my recommendation if you are going for the DMM tools.
one other problem with the dmm tools is that you cant just bring spare pick as the pick and adze/hammer come as one piece.
ive now got BD rage tools which are awesome for both ice and snow plodding. bit more versatile i reckon.

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. Well I bought my kit tonight :). I got BD gear. Got a rage hammer (50cm) and also a raven axe with grip (60cm) (I wanted a straight shaft axe also for more general mountaineering). Got some sabretooth step in crampons and also a couple of those turbo express ice screws :) Can't wait to use the new kit!!!
Thanks again:)

You'll like the Rages, they're a great tool for steep ice and alpine (older style without the pinky rest) alike.
Whatever you do, don't buy those PCM screw holsters, they suck!
