Can't see how this would create any more friction (and heat) than any other knot. Maybe I lack a bit of imagination. The bit about the extra loop and friction I think is a bit misguided. The critical location is the knot itself, through which all the load must pass. Wrapping the tree another time doesn't change that fact.
