a waist loop was of no 2 or 3 rope climbing rope was no 4 supposedly 4 held 4000 lbs ,
2 2000 lbs etc . ideally you would have 6 or 7loops to increase the area of support . I worked with somebody at outward bound who was in the army reserve commandos and he insisted on going through his waist loop every time to see if it was ok or damaged couldnt comprehend that even if 2 strands were completely cut 7 loops of 1000 lb would be stronger than his back or waist. A STEEL SCREW GATE was used to attach the rope . I think i got my pa (pierre allan ) boots in 1970 from bushgear in glenhuntly. first multipitch climb i did was a rosea where the leader showed us how to place pitons and also a couple of slings with engine nuts.
