Also have a columbia and would disagree with that sentiment. I find it to be the perfect combination of warmth, durability, stretchiness and water resistance that I use it more than any article of clothing. I Climb in it, belay in it, wear it around camp etc.
I've squeezed up thrutchy chimneys with it and it still looks new. Yep they're heavy but I dont notice it as i'm always wearing it!

Puffy's are lighter and are good for belaying when it's really cold but cant take a decent shower and obviously no good to climb in. Lightweight rain jackets tend to tear easily and aren't warm enough for a wimp like me
