I used MSRs for about twenty five years before changing to a gas canister stove a few years ago. It's just a cheap Kovea that weights about 70 g now that I have removed the igniter that stopped working. Gas is just SO much easier than shellite.

No problem using it in the snow provided you use the iso butane / propane fuel canisters and it's warmer than about - 12 or so. At sea level, iso butane boils at -12 degrees whereas n butane boils at - 1 degree, propane boils at -47 degrees. All boiling points are a bit lower at altitude.

I have had no problem using an old MSR windshield, although they recommend you don't. It's almost essential in windy weather.

The main thing I don't like about my gas stove is the fact that it's a bit unstable because of the cooker on top of canister design. That and the extra waste from throw - away cylinders.
