I have used a gri gri for top rope soloing before and found it fine. You probably end up falling about a metre with rope stretch and the movement of the gri gri, but it dosnt bother me. To avoid having to pull the rope through all the time i set up my anchor and then chuck the rest of my rack in my pack and tye the rope off to that. And then when you are done you can justr lower off using the gri gri and not have to faf about with belay devices and prussics and stuff. |
