There are lots of potential options. After having tried a range of systems the one that works for me is the Faders Sum. The rope feeds reasonably well if you weight it at the bottom and because you can abseil on it, it's easy to work a sequence repeatedly. The trango cinch feeds and locks beautifully on top rope solo but it sucks to abseil on. I recently got a silent partner but haven't used it much for top rope solo because it doesn't feed as well as the sum and you can drop a bit until the centrifugal clutch locks. It is infinitely better for leading though. Shunt and rescueascender could be better yet, but I haven't tried them so can't compare...
