So, the uni club has just got its grant money and is in the (long overdue) process of replacing a lot of their ropes.
There are a few hundred meters of static that has been sitting in storage for a number of years. Because we have a duty of care we will be destroying them - also they look pretty terrible.
Apart from cutting them into small, unusable lengths, what would the wise people of chockstone suggest for disposing of them? We are getting rid of a couple of old dynamics too, probably will give small lengths to new members to 'practise knot tying' ie- they can deal with it.

Weave them into rugs.

Some schools esp aftercare centres might be happy to receive them as skipping ropes. That's where one of mine has ended up.

Or just give 'em to Mikl (meaning any of the above options is possible).

In the past I have given mine to horse camps and also to an outdoor activities campsite that I knew had good procedures for separating critical from non critical gear.

when i got rid of about 450m of old ropes a few years back, the kayaking section greatfully took most of them as tie down ropes for trailers etc.

I've heard you can get money for old rope.

Give em to mikl so we can find out just how good or terrifyingly dangerous they are.

I could use a few small sections of static rope (5m sort of lengths) for non-critical uses.
Let me know if they're still available (PM me)

Howdy, if there are any that are still usable (but I understand they are on their last legs) I'd love to grab some for new route development! I've gone through heaps of ropes, and they don't tend to last long with all the jumaring and rock fall issues. I can promise to put up some pretty dam good new routes for the masses that are sub grade 22!
I'm happy to collect. just drop me an e-mail or ring me if I can take them off your hands. I'd be keen on a 100m at least (maybe 2 if that's not being greedy!)

Hi there.
Would be stoked to have the ropes to make into rope mats if they are still available.
They would need to be the original length though.
Mike
(could give you something like a letter of assurance that they will not be used for climbing if required?!)
