A-GPS = Assisted GPS. I would switch it off if I were you unless your mobile plan is cheap in regards to internet downloads. Essentially raw data from your GPS unit is sent to your mobile provider which then does the calculations to determine your position. Can be good in the built up areas, if you're rich...

As for programs, the N97 uses Symbian S60 as it's OS to memory. Essentially means there are tons of FREE software (unlike the iPhone,,,) to do anything you want (including those mapping software, etc). Just google up Symbian programs and you should get some links. In addition, Symbian supports Java and there's a definitely Python compiler out there (and a c compiler... I think) for Symbian if you want some more options in terms of programs out there (or want to write your own scripts...).
