It appears that the share weight of rope/webbing sitting on the rock should be sufficient to hold quite a significant whipper, under such circumstances I wouldnt have bothered slinging the boulder.

It looks like a few canyon anchors I've seen.

I've started carrying a knife for just that reason; clean out the accumulated paranoid rap tat.

Not for cutting dad loose when there's too much weight for the cam to hold?

Yates' hitch? I don't reckon my Dad's about to come canyonning with me. It would have to be very close to the car, very wide and with no vertical drop.

Top of some mountain in Japan. I first saw it on Supertopo.

There is a big rusty ring at each corner of that death triangle.

Reminds of something I saw in southern england...doing some trad route on a sea cliff the local was explaining how the whole coast was bolt free blah blah blah then, we get to the top of said climb and came accross something like in the picture shown...many a sling wrapping around a boulder with various crabs in different states of rusting decay.......thought it funny when two rings/U's painted would have been much less obstrusive for rap anchor.

So true. Disappointing how ethics can get in the way of common sense.

My mum once tried to tech me to knit when I was a kid.... came out something like that.

there's loads of stuff like that about in the Uk - I wish I'd taken a photo of the one on the old man of stoer - I wouldn't trust it -but some convincing from a more experienced climber that I trusted I probably would - I'm a scared cat though. x

Reminds me of what Ben Lomond could look like. There's already tat everywhere.
