I love when people are so enthusiastic about climbing... Reminds me of when I started. :)

With regard to the shoes: don't get too enthusiastic about weirdly-shaped shoes when you're still getting your sea-legs on the rock (to badly mix metaphors). They may even hinder your technique as a beginner, since they'll hurt like a bastard until you get used to them and that may influence your footwork. If you haven't already bought some, I'd recommend some comfortable shoes - the La Sportiva Cliff Blues are good for someone getting started on flat/slightly overhanging indoor walls and slabby/vertical climbing outdoors. Have a chat to the staff at your local outdoor shop, they should be able to help you out.

The Katanas are a great pair of shoes (although I prefer the old Sportiva Mistrals), but they're not really a beginner shoe.

EDIT: Oh yes, no matter what the salesperson tells you, do NOT buy a pair of One Sport Roxygens, no matter how cheap they are. Worst shoes ever.
