The only time I've had this (hands going black from rope) repeatedly is with one particularly cheap and nasty mammut I bought while o/s - only thing is I don't think it was treated and had always put it down to it somehow collecting more dirt than other ropes. Maybe it was just a cheap treatment - in any case I think I agree with this theory.

FWIW I've also used the BD Guide for years and not had a problem - there's not that much 'coating' on the 'teeth' left now. Would there really be that much 'coating' on the device as to make your hands and the rope go that black? I don't think it's that thick ... I
