Saw an interseting doco about the benefits and pitfalls of moving manufacturing to China.

Main benefit is that obviously its super cheap, and if control of the manufacture is kept, there are no quality problems.

Main disadvantage is that no matter how tight security is, local manufacturers will probably work out how to make identical copies (often including labeling and packaging) much cheaper, and not necessarily with any quality control.

A classic example is counterfeit perscription drugs, that are identical to the genuine article, except they often dont work.

According to the doco, a significant proportion of the spare parts used in vehicle servicing in western countries are now non genuine 'knock-offs'.

Probably not an issue for BD, as the manufacture process of a cam wouldnt exactly be rocket science, and could be worked out pretty bloody easy by just buying and pulling apart a cam. So they are not really risking much.

Its more an issue for high tech companies (apple etc) who want to protect innovative techniques.
