Sounds like a totally different situation. Presumably your sling and your rope were through the same krab, rather than your rope running through the sling. So I assume that the rope was running over the top of the sling, and the contact pressue between them would have been about double the rope tension. If a rope runs over the top of another rope in a crab, it will "fall off" the top of the other rope and end up only loading the karabiner.

Without significant force pressing one rope against the other, there will be negligble heating due to friction between them.
