Hi Li,
I had my first (and only so far) mountaineering experience a year or so ago in NZ for summer. I wore La Sportiva Makalu's. No longer made I believe but there is a very similar boot they make now called.... (I'll fill in the gap later if I remember). They were perfectly fine for NZ. Warm enough and very comfortable
They have a three quarter length shank in them so do have a bit of sole flexibility, but does not interfere with clip of crampons. My partner has had his makalu's for a number of years and has had no problems with his crampons popping off, like some reveiws online suggest.
Buy good socks, I have bridgedales and didn'tt get one blister. I wore my boots everywhere, only pair of shoes besides tevas that I took with me.
Make sure you wear them in!
