Fixed boards whether homemade or bought are definitely better than swinging boards, but they miss the crux of the question Citationx was asking. A swinging board, is mobile, can fit in a bag, and can be hung from a tree or anywhere. They are portable and easy to install. So if you are travelling a lot for work, or it is raining for weeks on a climbing trip, you can still do some training.. Also, swing boards force you to work your core while you are using them, which is an added benefit.
