Bluff hut was burnt down in 06 fires. - hasn't been rebuilt was far as I know. Ropers (north of Mt.Nelse on the Bogong High Plains) has been rebuilt though, and is really comfortable and beautifully lined. re carrying a tent, and the NZ situation. The new book "Survive - remarkable tales from the NZ outdoors" by Carl Walrond has any number of deaths recorded where hikers/skiers had planned on making it to a hut, but never did. david
