in truly cold climates sweating can be really fking dangerous. sweat + cold = frozen (ice) = bad.

I don't like 100% windproofs when cycling, a little airflow keeps sweat away.
I've been riding in some fancy baggy 3/4 nylon pants that I found cheaply recently (they have a chamois liner built in)

With a really thin merino thermal & full gloves its perfect for temps down to 0deg (we were snowed & hailed on the other day & I was still warm enough).
The caveat is I sweat LOTS & don't feel the cold so I probably wear a little less than a lot of people.
