@Gavo - if Bel's suggestion appeals, why don't you look for someone nearby, physio or osteo, who has additional training in dry needling. Some will refer to it on their websites and for those who don't, a phone call to the clinic should clarify things for you.

In my experience elbow problems often respond well to dry-needling (as part of a broader treatment plan of course) and I'm sure you'd be able to find someone on your side of town who could assist. (I'd suggest some names for you but the people I'd suggest are all further from you than Michael Kotsidis so not useful at this point).

For someone more local, a phone call to the people who run Cliffhanger could be useful too. They're based in the Western suburbs and might perhaps be able to suggest someone nearby who is familiar with climbers and climbing injuries. I'm pretty sure there are (or were) physios working in the complex where Cliffhanger is located and they may even be able to give you the heads up on whether they have the sort of experience you're looking for.

As for your original Q. re osteo or physio for elbow pain/tendon issues, ultimately its a matter of personal choice. Both are well equipped to assess and treat the sort of condition you've described, though of course their trainings differ in focus as do their consultation and treatment styles.

Of course, there are other health professionals who could assist - chiros, acupuncuturists, myotherapists, sports doctors, bowen therapists, exercise physiologists etc etc to name a few, but in the end it boils down to what you're most comfortable with, because that's what'll work best for you.

Personally speaking, I'm trained as myotherapist, however when it comes to my body, I choose my practitioners based on their individual expertise, the methods that they use and their belief in the things I want to achieve (eg re climbing, dance etc etc). Often I'll see a really good soft-tissue person, and at other times, the person whose input I seek is an osteo or physio. It's very much about the specific expertise that I'm seeking and the approach that I'm after. In terms of my own caseload, I have clients who find they get better results with me than they do with physios or osteos etc. Equally though, others find that a physio's approach or an osteo's approach works well for them and so that's where they go.

Bottom line - get someone *qualified* to look at it for you that you feel comfortable seeing. If the certificate on their wall says 'physio' or 'osteo' then I'm sure they'll have the appropriate skills to give you a good indication of what's going on. If you want, get a recommendation from someone you trust, often people do better if they faith in the person they're seeing and although that doesn't change the treatment you receive, it may influence how your body reacts, call it mind-over-matter if you will.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!
Elaine.
