I tore mine (while bouldering) about 10 years ago. Was a "buckethandle" tear, where a flap was flipped over and wedged in the knee joint. I couldn't straighten or weight my leg. Anyway had the chunk cut out and no problems now. Recovery was very quick, was able to weight the leg and walk in a few days, and after a few weeks of physio and strengthening exercises in gym to build up the wasted leg muscles was right as rain. No problems with it now at all but I understand it makes you more prone to arthritis in the future though.
