hey rupert.

unfortunately i am in washington dc (USA) for another 2 weeks or so.

it doesn't sound like referred pain to me, though bri is correct, pain can easily refer to your hand from an injury done above it (ie elbow and shoulder). this type of pain however is usually not reproducable by point pressure. in fact, it is quite difficult to locate exactly, manifesting itself as a diffuse dull type pain. an injury to a nerve would usually necessitate that you have some numbness, pins and needles etc, ie some kind of sensory change, or overt weakness when you contract your fingers. do you have any of this?

i certainly think you have injured something quite local in your palm. did your hand grip the banister for a split second, after which there was pain? what happens when you pull with your fingers in a crimp and open hand position?
