Latest update - caught up with the man earlier on today and got some more info:

* has had shoulder surgery and is recovering from that
* facial lacerations healed nicely and have improved his looks ;)
* ankle recovering well, still limping
* right thumb has cast off couple of weeks ago - stiff but moving

Re the actual accident:

* believes he went off route
* investigators abseiled down to inspect the route and found
- scuff marks from his feet slipped
- three chalk "skid marks" where he hit the wall each time on way down

* apparently, at the bottom of the climb there is a sloping boulder where he landed on it, close to a tree which lacerated his face. His landing on the boulder, and by landing on his chalk bag and rope left an outline of the rope on the boulder

* the rope has been taken for analysis by investigators - sorry Mike

He also wishes to pass on his thanks again to some lass who was climbing on the route beside him and attended to him first.
