I just heard the sad, sad news about five days ago. Leo was a funny guy and a pretty decent climber. Never thought it would be the last I’ll see of him when he climbed in the Philippines after we met you guys in Tonsai. We enjoyed climbing with him, drinking with him, bumming and fooling around with him, and for the short time I knew him, I can say he was a good man, a funny guy who left a lasting impression on the people he met.
Makes me realize how easily things can take the wrong turn so quickly, and how this sweet pursuit of ours that gains us friends can just as easily take them away.
If it’s any consolation, at least the last thing he was doing was one thing he really loved. I guess I can say Leo was making the most out of life for the past months, traveling and climbing all over.
The guys who climbed with Leo in Cebu wanted me to extend their deepest sympathies to his parents, Peter and Andrea, his brother Tobi, the rest of his family, his friends, especially you, Timo and Tatjana.
It was an honor to have met and climbed with him. May he rest in peace.
Let’s all be careful out there.
