Rock climber injured at North Bondi 9-May-2013 At 8:42:58 AM technogeekery

A MAN in his 20s has been winched out of the rocks at North Bondi with serious injuries after falling nearly 6m from the cliffs at Ben Buckler Point.

The man fell from the cliff at about 2.45pm this afternoon and some witnesses report he had been rock-climbing.

A spokesman from the Westpac Life Saver Helicopter La Perouse base said a helicopter had winched a crewman down to the man, and police and ambulance officers had treated him at North Bondi.

“What we understand – though we can’t confirm it – is that he was rock-climbing, and he has sustained a number of fractures after falling about 6m at Ben Buckler Point,” he said.

“He was conscious when the ambulance officers arrived on scene and he is being treated for neck and possible spinal injuries.

“He has a number of other fractures, including at least one broken leg, and lacerations.”

The man has been transported to Royal North Shore Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.
