The media reports of our accident on Zurbriggen Ridge on Mt Cook are somewhat exaggerated and inaccurate. We were hit by debris from a serac that collapsed above us and fell/slid 50-100m onto soft snow on the glacier below. We headed back to the hut and radioed DoC in Mt Cook Village. DoC offered us a ride down to the village and later suggested we go to hospital because I'd taken knock to the head and Neal had difficulties breathing. We're both fine and sustained only minor injuries. DoC, police at Mt Cook Village and Twizel, and staff at Timaru Hospital were fantastic. The same cannot be said of the journalist and photographer from the Timaru Herald who hassled us outside the hospital and ignored our requests not be photographed.
