Merry from NZ has a shot at the classic 28 at Frog. 3 minutes long. Music by Sublime and Elvis.

This was from July. It was another Tassie invasion at Frog. After we combined forces with randoms, there were about 20 of us in camp. Besides the legend Adam D. and family I don't think I saw another Qld climber. However, there were a stack of them at Coolum.

I don't think it is well known but Sam Bowman did the FA of Qld hardest route while we were climbing at Coolum in July. He gave it 33 or 34. I am not sure why this has not been shared with the rest of the world but there it is.

New 34(?) at Coolum.

Okay.. I’ve got to say it… and its not just because I was at frog at the time (one of the few non Tasmanians it would seem - we walked under brown corduroy trousers when this guy (merry) was having a (earlier?) shot and you were belaying him, also saw him cruise impulse while you were taking sunset pics from above (followed by a redhead with a lovely smile pink pointing it, how did those shots turn out?!)) but that video is a ripper. Love the way, zooming in from above, it captures both the physical and emotional effort the climber is putting in when (well) above his gear fighting to gain and stay attached to the tenuous foot and hand holds (positively vibrating from the effort in fact – all been there, even if at half the grade) and the facial expressions in those last few seconds..and love the editing too especially how you went to slow mo and Elvis for the fall. Already watched it repeated times (hard to focus on all elements at the same time) - more than any other climbing vid where one look is usually more than enough - and still find those last few metres totally absorbing.. Also the film quality loses nothing on full screen (if big brother is monitoring my computer at work today all they will see are repeats of this vid) Thanks JF!

Thanks man! Wow. I swear to all that I didn't write this under a pseudonym. Yeah Merry usually goes for it so its well worth watching him climb something. The shots turned out really well. Most of them are here=

I hope that link works. I am making a little movie about our trip as well. Should be done in a week or so but in the middle of making the Tassie climbing film so all these side projects take the backseat.

cheers,

Nice video. Good to see some fight and something that looks like climbing as opposed to choreography.

How close to the end when he fell? On my first watch I really thought he had it in the bag and reckon if he didn't stuff around chalking up he would have done it.

Thanks! Yeah that was the idea... A bit of an up and down drama rollercoaster! It was a pretty big heartbreaker but I seriously doubt it was the "stuffing around chalking" that made him fall. :) Those holds are pretty small and the cliff was already in the sun. Maybe you should go for the first chalkless ascent. ;)

Yeah, I was kinda hoping he was gonna hang around on the flaring jams and fiddle a hex into the letterbox. Nice fall, nice catch.
