Was fortunate enough last year to get to this new area in Yunnan, China for the festival. Only was in town for one day so didn't get to get on much rock. Amazing potential, and ridiculous amounts of trad lines, and plenty more yet to be put up. Infrastructure in Liming is pretty light on at this stage, it's a one-street town, but will inevitably grow as the place gets 'discovered'. Right near Thousand Turtle Mountain, Tiger Leaping Gorge, ShangriLa, Lijiang (cool town) and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. One of the prettiest places in China I've been so far, plenty of other things to see and explore. would encourage anyone planning a China/Yangshuo trip to visit this area also, it's totally rad, and many plums waiting to be picked... : )
Hey Matt, I don't know if I met you around the festival. I was there for about a week and actually just reunited with Brandon last week who was out there from Moab, UT.
good clean looking video Cedar put together from last November. I haven't had a chance to write a TR from the place since then either. Bummer it didn't feature Mike Dobie at all. He has stationed himself up there for nearly 2 years just drinking coffee and putting up new routes. By this season there are probably 200 or more pitches on over 100 routes. It takes a bit of scrubbing but is just a peak at the potential for another 200+ routes there and thousands of more around China.
check Dobie's Blog at http://mikedobie.tumblr.com and Derek Cheng's article in the current April/May issue of Gripped
I did bump into one other Aussie at a restaurant on Saturday night, but he has a Chinese wife and was living somewhere in Yunnan... Wasn't there for very long (unfortunately), had a tight schedule so I started in ShangriLa, worked down through Tiger Leaping, and then to the festival for a day, and had to head back to Chengdu for work from Lijiang on the Sunday morning. You could easy spend time dirtbagging around there, it's got so much potential! Did the walk up to Thousand Turtle mountain on the Sun morning, that's got some wild rock formations going on...
Panorama shot I did from the top of the 'Turtle', there's some big, black streaked walls that you can't see from Liming on the right...
