Hi, I'm interested in doing some ski mountaineering or winter climbing around Mt.Bogong/ Feathertop, Buller etc. areas. I've got around 3 seasons experience climbing in the southern Alps in NZ and all the gear but no car and no partner. Any takers?
I've come back from NZ trying to re-establish myself (code for no work:)) so i've got plenty of time.
Cheers, Mark

Hey Bananachicken, we are heading up to Buller Friday and Saturday - no ski's, just tools. Drop us an email if you are keen. Anybody know of the conditions (or, are there any conditions)?

Ant, spoke to a skier friend last night who was up there on Tuesday - icy conditions in the gullies apparently. Promising.

Give us a report when you get back. I, for one, am interested to know what conditions are like.

Have gone on VCC trips before, good but not very demanding, for winter climbing/mountaineering, looking for some more challenging situations. Went skiing on weekend of 26/27 so apologise for not getting back to you earlier. Hope Buller was fun. Drop me a line on 0402 413 846 if you are doing anything else or anyone else keen?

Hmm, could be quite a party. John K and Craig were planning to join us for the day on Saturday as well. Timmy, can you haul the barby up?

I could probably jam in a weekend or two up to buller (Bogong/Feathertop are a bit long for a weekend). I am currently of with the flu otherwise I would have been up at Buller this weekend.
You might find that on the VCC trips you waste a lot of time due to group size e.t.c.
I have climbed ice in Scotland grade 3 or so, and have my own gear (except ice screws) I have been rock climbing for 10 years but I am not that experienced at ice.
Regards
Craig

Hi all, we're back. Friday conditions were great, stayed cold with some visibility. Saturday was worse, warmer with windy & cloudy conditions. Trip report soon, photos need processing and scanning ..

Hey Craig, you missed a good day on Friday. Nice views, frozen mixed gullies and a few cold beers down at the pub that night. No waterfalls yet, still a few more weeks away.

First off. Thanks very much to Anthony and Steve for a bloody great weekend at Buller, climbing on moderate snow/ice, thoroughly enjoyed it. Hello again to John K, pity you didn't hang around longer, there was decent stuff around the gullies.
Hi Craig, in reply to your email. I am happy to go up to Buller again seems there is a bit more to explore, drop me an email, text or call when you're better and see if we can line something up, i've got screws etc. found that we used pitons quite a bit as the ice wasn't that solid and the rocks were mostly covered in lots of snow/crusty ice. Snow stakes only provided second rate protection.
Hi Steve, Would love to see the photos when are you at VR i could drop by, although i don't expect to go until Thursday/Friday

Would be awesome today with colder temps although the snow cams indicate the viz is
crap.
Mr Chicken I am at VR tonight only if you wanted to drop by, but else will try and get on my film scanner later this evening. Only got the first roll back though, 11/36 exposed on the second including the shot of yourself on the future Wild cover!

Two technical tools or one short, one long?
