Make sure you sort out changing the rego in the state you buy it in, you need a roadworth certificate to do this , a french couple we met didnt do this in nsw and tried to then do it in victoria and had to re roadworthy the vechile and cost a huge amount of time sorting out the mess of being in another state . Whilst the rego is expensive most of this is for third party insurance which pays all medical costs etc associated with an accident but wont pay if not actually insured . It is very good value insurance especially as it is no fault and country driving involves risks of hitting animals . Hit a kangeroo at 100 kmh and the car may well be a write off . Large areas of outback australia the risk of hitting a roo make driving between dusk and dawn very dangerous
