Unless you have some experience in picking it isnt easy to earn much money fruit picking . It can be very hot over 40 degrees as well as humid in an orchard . work may vary according to the type of fruit to pick and due to the drought vast areas of orchard have been let go and wont need picking . tomatos are probably the worst , bending and in the open for $50.00 a bin yet some people can pick a bin in a little over an hour others are working 10 hours to pick 2 bins in a day . 15% of your pay is witheld for tax and growers need to see your work permit . Immigration do raid orchards and lock up people to deport who are working only on a tourist visa. A lot of growers use labor hire people to provide all staff . There are agencies in shepparton who try and manage the supply of pickers to jobs avilable check to see if there are jobs before you go to an area . Dont be put off just be aware of possible pitfalls . season in goulburn valley is mainly jan to april
