Not cranky Mr Climboholic. Just being old fashioned on the usage of words and their spelling. Courses are for learning from, and granite can be coarse for roughness.

Cynical? You bet! but perhaps I think differently to the youth of today as confirmed by the following I read earlier this morning.

>The people who started university this year across the nation were born in 1990.

>Star Wars is older than they are.

>Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

>Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

>They have always had an answering machine

>They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

>They have always had CD's, never records.

>Ray Martin has been on Channel 9 their entire life.

>Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

>They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

>They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

>They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

>They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even was.

>McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

>They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

...and I could add many climbing anecdotes to that list as well, like “They” have never climbed without sticky rubber; or considered climbing possible without slcds or bolts; or that ropes used to actually break in severe falls, if in fact the belayer could hold on to it long enough!

Sorry Mr Scottf for hijacking your thread. Perhaps you could PM Mr Capt_mulch who is a contributer to this website and is a Canberra local with (it appears) plenty of contacts. Be careful though, as I have heard he is just starting to get into the unpopular (teeheehee) aspect of climbing called "aid".
