Hey all,
I am hoping to find some people for trips to cape lake, or blue lake this winter. My experience is limited to a TMC trip in NZ last year, but heaps of biggish wall trad etc...
I also just started studying uni at the tender age of 27 at ANU so i can get my hands on snowshoes and other stuff with any luck for cheap. Got my own gear, rope, car....
let me know....this cold shitty weather has got to be good for something

I'll be heading up there and I know of a few others who will be too. I'll keep you posted.

Ditto.
Apparently snow was visible from Canberra yesterday.

Given the limited opportunities for ice climbing in Australia, your thread should read, "climbers looking for ice" this winter rather that "looking for ice climbers".
Lets face it ice is the limiting factor not climbers.

Last winter was mild. This one is going to be much colder in my opinion. Could be a better season.
Anyway, ice is out. Look at all the overseas mags. No one uses their tools and crampons to climb ice anymore. Dry tooling is the new black so get out there and have a crack!

that sort of adds a whole new ethical debate. dry tooling is really damaging to the rock.
lets just wait for the "drytooling damage debate" at araps or centenial glen.

Yeah, but Wallwombat lives near Bungonia where Fantini's first ascents used ice tools.

Hey Brendane,
I'm also planning on going out there this winter, probably going to hole up in a snow cave for a week and spend some time ice climbing, tobogganing and visiting nearby peaks (ok hills). Would love to have some more people to go with I've only got two interested so far. I left it too late last year and it all melted away but I think its going to be a cold frosty winter this year. Bring it on!

?
Hmmm, ... I am not too sure about that.
He certainly carried a hammer (possibly one with a pick), and as I heard it used to 'seat' the odd nut there, but having climbed the likes of Big Red Supergiant myself, I don't hold that against him due the rock quality on its upper pitches ...
When I have occasionally seen him at Bungonia (though he was doing repeats then and not first ascents), I note that he climbed in minimalist style, which is something to aspire to.
