Climbers wanted - himalaya 27-Nov-2007 At 3:34:06 PM GravityHound

Myself and 2 mates were planning on attempting a peak in the himalaya that is (relatively) technically easy but with some altitude in mid-2009 or mid-2010 (depending on the cash flow). mate no.1 is now going to be a dad in 6 months time and mate no.2 will in all likelihood (if his wife has her way) be a dad before then as well. This leaves me itching to go and a good chance I will have no-one to go with or will need more people to go with. So I am putting out a call for people who may be interested in the trip. First though, if you think climbing a mtn is jumaring up fixed ropes to preset camps for a final assault on the summit stop reading. The attempt will stick to alpine style as much as possible.

There are some points below, it will give you an idea of the type of person that is most likely to fit into the group.

1) Be pretty relaxed about life in general and prefer to get out there and do, rather than sit around and talk
2) Have the time to commit to getting fit and practicising stuff
3) be good if you swear like a trooper or don’t mind people swearing like a trooper
4) your friends think you are a bit ‘out there’. If they refer to you as a ‘f*cking nutbag’, that’s even better because it covers point no.2
5) you respect, and maybe even have an interest, in other cultures. No racial bullsh*t.
6) you believe in equality, respect all people regardless of their ‘status’. doesn’t matter whether a persons job is to ride a donkey to town to get supplies or looks to be someone who will summit, no ‘I’m more important than you’ bullsh*t
7) Be good if you live in or near the bluies so can meet for training etc.
8) You have experience in endurance stuff. Whether its 24 hour rogaines, a 24 hour mtb, a long hard hike, previous mountaineering, whatever. some sick-minded part of you actually enjoys the pain and sleep deprivation
9) Be good if you have done stuff alone as well so less chance of losing it if you end up isolated and alone for some reason
10) Sport climbing isn’t really your thing. You have experience with anchors, self resuce, etc. not just threading ropes at the top of a climb. You might even find aid climbing interesting.
11) Have got experience or are willing to do courses and get experience in glacier travel, crevasse rescue, snow anchors, alpine climbing techniques…..
12) A pretty sick sense of humour certainly wouldn’t go astray
13) If you’ve been trained through scouts you have learned to critically analyse what you were taught in scouts and adjust your opinions accordingly. Don’t want to offend any scouts people, have just had some shockers including my dad who still says “in scouts we were taught you never go out into the bush alone” anytime I go out alone.
14) Music! very very important. Must like punk, alternative and/or older rock music (think JJJ). any rap, hip hop (even jjj hip hop) or top 40 bought along on the trip will be duly burnt in a sacrifice to avenge the gods of good music and ensure we return safely.

Well that’s it. Pretty upfront but no point beating around the bush. Apologies if I sound like an anal d*ckhead, just hoping to find someone whose mindset will mesh. PM me if you want to know more or think you know of someone who will be interested.

Thanks
Aaron
