Hi all,

Back from the trek now - we ended up going with Subin's company and had a ball! Was it worth getting a trekking guide? I think so in our case, as it was our first time in Nepal, and on the Jiri-Lukla section of the track it's not quite so crowded, and it would have been possible to take a wrong turn.

Also it helped us to learn a lot about the local culture, customs, and surrounds. Also by booking a local outfit we saved a lot of money, and contributed more to impoverished Nepalis rather than lining the pockets of Aussie tour operators.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, we tried a couple of guides but they had clients already - we were lucky to be able to book a guide at such short notice!
